Eva Staehr-Nielsen (Denmark, 1911-1976).
After completing her training at Copenhagen´s Art-Craftsman School in 1932, Eva Staehr-Nielsen joined Saxbo, where she worked extensively with Nathalie Krebs. Her simple, well-designed forms contributed heavily to what is now instantly recognizable as the "Saxbo style", and where a worthy venue for Nathalie Krebs´ semi-matte glazes.
Eva Staehr-Nielsen helped redefine that style in the late 1950s, when she moved from the wheel modeled pottery to molded pottery and began experimenting with sculptural shapes and incised patterns. Like Nathalie Krebs, Eva Staehr-Nielsen did not throw her own forms, but was otherwise vitally involved in the process. When Saxbo closed, she went to Royal Copenhagen, where she worked until her death in 1976. She studied in Paris, London, and Italy and exhibited internationally for Saxbo.
