Christian Poulsen (1911-1991) was a renowned Danish ceramicist, known for his experiments with glazes and unique firing techniques. After training at the School of Arts and Crafts and further studies in Paris, he began working at the Royal Porcelain Factory and later at Bing & Grøndahl. He started his own workshop in Ørholm in 1946, where he developed a distinctive style of stoneware with glossy glazes in both black and white and strong colours that were otherwise rare in stoneware.

Poulsen became known for his powerful glazes, which often flowed towards the bottom of his simple and almost monumental forms. He worked with a special Danish clay that made it possible to apply brightly coloured alkali glazes to stoneware, creating his distinctive style. His works range from large stoneware sculptures to functional utility items such as bowls and dishes.

Poulsen won several awards, including a silver medal at the Triennale in Milan in 1957 and the Eckersberg Medal in 1970. His works can be found in numerous museums, including Louisiana, the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, and foreign institutions such as the National Museum in Stockholm and the Röhsska Museum of Arts and Crafts in Gothenburg.
