Sven Hauptmann (1911-1984), Danish visual artist. Hauptmann made his debut as a self-taught artist at the Artists' Autumn Exhibition in 1944. During his stay in France 1950-62 he worked in painting, ceramics and sculpture. However, it was the collage and the assembly with the material and coloristic qualities that eventually became his preferred forms of expression and after his return his name established; in 1982 he received the Eckersberg Medal. Hauptmann exhibited from 1976 with the association Den Frie Udstilling. Examples of his works are Solens gang (1964, Statens Museum for Kunst) and 24 combined units (1969, Nordjyllands Kunstmuseum).
